The city council's regular meetings are held beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. Otherwise, city councilors do not keep regular office hours at city hall. Please call to arrange an appointment.

Mission Statement
The city council is the legislative branch of city government. The seven councilors, who select the mayor from among themselves, are the city's only elected officials. Together they develop the goals and policies necessary to establish the roles that the city should play, the services and programs it should provide, and the projects it should undertake in striving toward their vision of the community's future. They then provide the political leadership necessary to achieve the city's goals.
Services Provided
The city council is responsible for making all legislative policy regarding city government. This is done by passing ordinances, adopting resolutions, awarding contracts, approving intergovernmental agreements, and adopting the annual budget. The council meets twice a month to hold public hearings and take other formal action, and holds informal work sessions on an as-needed basis. The city council appoints the city manager, the city attorney, the planning commission, and various other citizens advisory committees. Councilors represent the city on local and regional intergovernmental committees and organizations.
